10 Christmas Gifts for Grandparents
Having your child choose a Christmas present for their grandparents this year will provide you with some high quality time to share together as a family. It is also a great time to learn the lesson of giving from one’s heart. If you are a busy family, then here are 10 ideas that you can use so that your children can still make the perfect gift for their grandparents this year. Of course, a lot of these gifts would work well for teachers as well. They include:

1. If you have a local copy shop you can engage their help in creating notepads that feature your child’s artwork. All this takes is for you to gather together some creative artwork that your child has done in either black marker or pen with a fine, felt tip. You and your child can then visit the copy shop in your neighborhood so that the staff is able to advise you as to which of your child’s artwork pieces you should use. The staff there can also help you choose what dimensions you will be using for your notepad. Once you take the notepads home you can have your child glue a piece of cardboard onto the back of it, along with a small magnetic tape strip. Both the cardboard and the magnetic stripping can be easily located at your local craft store.

2. You can make some potpourri ornaments. All you need to do is visit your local craft store to purchase some colorful ribbon and some clear, round, plastic ornaments. You will also need to buy some potpourri in holiday colors. Once you get home you simply need to guide your child as they pour some of the potpourri into each of the ornaments. Your child can then tie a loop with a knot in it at the top of the ornament so that it can be hung up.

3. A great idea that everyone enjoys, but that takes some work, is to make fun shapes of glycerin soaps. You will need to purchase a variety of colored bars of glycerin soap and some different molds from your local craft store. As an adult, you can then help your child melt the chunks of soap inside of an old aluminum can that you have placed inside a pot of water. This should then be placed upon a low flame on the stovetop. Once this soap is melted you can then carefully pour it into the molds. These should then sit there until the soap hardens and then you can remove it from the mold. Placing a couple of different soaps into a small decorative bag will complete this wonderful gift.

4. Another idea, along the same lines as making soap, is making candles. There are kits that you can purchase at any local craft store. You will definitely need to provide close supervision for this craft though. If you are concerned about this, then you should try making honeycomb wax sheet candles.

5. Your child will enjoy making “jar mixes.” These are really easy to make too. All you need to do is layer your favorite recipe’s dry ingredients inside of a jar. Once this is done, simply tie some nice ribbon around the jar and attach a full recipe so that the person who receives this yummy gift will now what they need to do in order to “complete” it.

6. Help your child bake some delicious holiday treats. This is a great gift because as your child grows older he or she will be able to help you more and more here. Preschool children are able to pour ingredients that have already been measured into a bowl and stir it. Then as your child grows older he or she will eventually be able to bake their treats independently with only minimal adult supervision.

If all else fails and you simply cannot find the time to make any of these wonderful gifts, there are a couple of things that your child’s grandparents would probably truly appreciate receiving from your child. These include:

1. For a gift that comes from the heart and yet your child’s grandparents are still sure to appreciate, you could purchase a gift from “fair trade.” This label means that the farmers or artists who have produced the item have been paid fairly. There are numerous things that you can purchase with this label, including coffee, chocolate, toiletries, jewelry, home accessories and lots more. Once the child has chosen a gift for their grandparents they can then write a short note telling their grandparents what part of the world their gift comes from and what the “fair trade” label means.

2. A lot of grandparents would truly appreciate receiving a relaxation wrap. This gift can be quite expensive but it is a great gift to receive. If you are unsure of what a relaxation wrap is, it is a soft flannel wrap that you place inside of the microwave for a minute or two. Once it has been microwaved, it will provide up to a half hour of warm, soothing, lavender relaxation. These are especially great in those areas where the winter is particularly cold.

3. You could always consider what your child’s grandparent’s interests and hobbies are. Maybe there is a magazine or book that your child’s grandparents would enjoy that relates to their interests and hobbies.

4. If your child’s grandparents truly enjoy supporting a favorite charity, you could always have your child make a contribution to that organization on their grandparent’s behalf. These organizations will generally provide you with a card or certificate that your child can download to present to their grandparents, showing them how much they donated on their behalf.

There are plenty of ideas here for your child to choose from. You certainly will be able to find something that will make their grandparents really happy this year at Christmas time.
